Mumbai Mansion – Indian Magic

Late one night recently I received a message from Blythe at Lunchquest saying “You must go to the Mumbai Mansion -Pramod is back.”

This was exciting news indeed. We had been big fans of Mithas until it closed and were missing its style of cooking – refined Indian food. Pramod was the head chef.

We set off with great anticipation to the launch of the new menu at The Mumbai Mansion which has recently changed ownership. It is located just round the corner from Haymarket Station. It’s larger than you might think from the outside and is very pleasantly decorated.

May I just suggest you go and book a table now?

Succulent lamb

We sampled canapé sized dishes from the menu. The dishes originate from all over India and feature fresh ingredients often presented in a more healthy way than standard menus.

We tasted dishes from the tandoor – including some juicy prawns that tasted of themselves with that wonderful tandoor tang

We tasted long-cooked dishes including a incredibly tender lamb.

Marinaded monk fish

We sampled street food dishes – a type of puri, which although asking twice the name of, I have forgotten it again – a lovely crispy shell with zingy interior

We we very happy to see Pramod’s marinaded monk fish included on the menu too.

There are two lovely sounding tasting menus to try, one for vegetarians (£21.95) and one for meat and fish eaters (£32.95) which sound incredible value.

We must gives mention to the cocktails which were beautifully judged including a lovely fresh non-alcoholic one.

Another lovely touch is to have some really good desserts, We tasted their take on a sticky toffee pudding – a lovely light ginger sponge

Pramod is definitely back and on top form. We are certainly going back soon to try the tasting menus with a group of friends. The word of mouth is building and we are very pleased to pass it on.
