A True Waldorf Winter – Festive Celebrations at the Caledonian

It’s beginning to taste a lot like Christmas when I went along to a preview of all things festive at the Pompadour at the Waldorf Astoria, Edinburgh last night.

Whether it’s an upmarket Christmas party you’re organising, an afternoon tea with a festive twist, or just wanting someone else to host your Christmas roast, the Waldorf will take the hassle out of your celebrations in the sumptuous surroundings at the Pompadour or at Galvin Brasserie de Luxe.  And if you still haven’t got your New Year planned, they’ve got a Hogmanay Ball, where you’ll experience an evening of Scottish traditions, live music and an extravagant menu.

We got to sample mini spoon size offerings of the various dishes, all washed down with lashings of Champagne.  Their starters included a tatare of Highland venison, pickled mushrooms and walnut; a haybaked celeriac veloute, truffle sabayon and toasted brioche and a Berwick crab lasagne, Beurre Nantais and pea shoots, followed by their main courses of pot roasted breast of Perthshire pheasant, savoy cabbage and Alsace bacon and a piperade of goat cheese and heather honey tarte fine.

I somehow missed out on the dessert spoons of their signature apple tarte tatin with Normandy creme fraiche and the hot chocolate fondant, honey comb and banana ice-cream but they looked pretty moreish!
