Paolozzi's Kitchen has an Italian inspired menu

Five years ago, working on a temporary contract for a public sector organisation near the Gyle, I used to take lunchtime walks to get my cultural fix at the Royal Bank of Scotland building nearby where the Wealth of Nations Sculpture by Eduardo Paolozzi sits.  Closer to home now, I…

Fiocchi di Neve – a warm welcome in Dalry

Caroline von Schmalensee February 5, 2019 February 3, 2019
Cake. It's not all about the cake but this stuff is fabulous.

I’m a fan of chef Rosario Sartore, owner of Locanda de Gusti and Pizza 1926 in Dalry. Both restaurants are excellent in their own way. I’m celebrating my anniversary at Locanda this year and Pizza 1926 has some of the best pizza I’ve ever had. Rosario’s extending his reach in…

Crunchy grissini, crocquettas, fried courgette flowers.

It has been a few months since The West Room launched in Edinburgh’s West End and we it was time to return and try out their delicacies on a normal evening. We went on a quiet Tuesday night in January. Compared to other venues in the area, The West Room…

Beetroot cured salmon with pickled kholrabi, home-made ravioli with butternut squash, parmesan and chilli croquette and Weekend in Venice, the cocktail.

Pizza, pasta and antipasta at Vapiano

Pizza, pasta and prosecco was enough to drag me out of my sick-bed last night for the launch of Vapiano on South St David Street, despite my heavy cold.

Cucina: contemporary Italian cuisine in the heart of Edinburgh

Nicki Sturzaker July 18, 2017 July 17, 2017
Linguine with langoustines & clams

I have often popped into the G&V for a drink during the festival en route to see a show in George Square, but for some reason I have never made it to the hotel’s restaurant offering – Cucina. This all changed last week when my husband and I had a…

Gusto – Italian dining to suit all tastes

Gusto Restaurant - Edinburgh

We’re so lucky in Edinburgh to have such a choice of restaurants. However, whilst the EdinburghFoody team are constantly inundated with invites, I almost hate to admit I’d never previously eaten at Gusto, despite my 17 years living in the city. It wasn’t for any particular reason or the fact…

Nicki Sturzaker March 14, 2017 March 14, 2017
Orange scented cake with vanilla mascarpone

It’s been a number of years since I’ve been to Divino Enoteca, so when an invitation landed in our inbox to try their new menu, Kerry and I were both keen to drop by. Tucked away on Merchant Street, just down from Greyfriars Bobby, it’s a hidden gem in the…

Kerry Teakle March 7, 2017 March 9, 2017
Contini's Italian donuts are deliciou

Although I’ve visited Contini Cannonball on Castle Hill, with its Glengoyne private dining room, quite a few times in the last six months, it’s a long time since I had set foot in Victor and Carina’s Italian flagship restaurant Contini on George Street.
