We’re delighted to say that the Pommery Champagne Bar is back for 2013 from 5 to 26 August.
Much as those of us who live in Edinburgh love all the frantic festival activity, there are times when we long for a little respite away from the throngs. We also relish the chance to relax in one of Edinburgh’s wonderful buildings especially that’s not usually open to the public. Now you might think it impossible to combine the two just off the Royal Mile, but this truly is possible!
The Pommery Bar had its first outing at last year’s festival and this year it is back and even better. Heritage Portfolio and the Signet Library have got together to create what is one of the must go to places of the festival from now until 27 August.
Pommery is definitely one of my favourite champagnes, it seems to suit my palate so well! There’s so many to try at the Bar – you may well have to visit more than once!
But, of course, being Edinburgh Foody, the food is the thing . This year, it has been been masterminded by Libby Andrews. You’ll find a lovely Moroccan influence in the salad of the day; there’s home baking using recipes from the renowned Scottish Portrait Gallery café and four different sharing platters: Smoked Shetland Salmon, Seafood, Mediterranean anti pasti.
Our suggestion
There’s some great special offers on their website. Check them out before you make your visit. It’s only here for a few weeks, so don’t miss it and look out for me!

I’ve been and didn’t like it. We were seated in the tub chairs next to the entrance and it was sweltering hot because of the blue lights shining up the pillars kicking out a lot of heat. Thought all the exposed cabling didn’t look great snaking about the wall edges.
The service, whilst sweet, was uneven and amateurish. We left shortly after. It’s a bit “emperors new clothes”. Sitting outside looked like a lot more fun.
I am sorry you didn’t enjoy it. As to the cabling it’s a library for the other 11 months of the year so the cabling is temporary!
Yes the cabling is part of the installation of the bar in the Signet. I understand that. It Would have been nice if they had hidden it. It spoiled the look.
Having worked in a historic venue, believe me when I say that is easier said than done!
