It might only be the start of October but things are beginning to look a little bit Christmas-y at the Pickering’s Gin Distillery. Pickering’s Gin baubles are back.
This innovative company, started in 2013 by co-founders Matthew Gammell and Marcus Pickering, invited some VIP guests, media and bloggers for a rather special evening to help them celebrate the harvesting of the original gin-filled baubles, which are now on sale.
Not only were we invited to ‘pick’ our own bauble from a beautifully decorated real Christmas tree, adorned in lots of these brightly coloured gin filled baubles but we then got to take a plush seat in one of the screens at the delightful art deco Dominion Cinema. We then watched what must be the shortest screening ever, 1 minutes 20 seconds to be precise, of ‘The Great #GinBaubles Harvest‘, whilst sipping on our Pickering’s gin, accompanied by Fever Tree tonic, ice and a slice of pink grapefruit and nibbling on the most delicious sweet popcorn, which coming from a hater of the stuff, is praise indeed.
Pickering’s Gin in based on an original Bombay recipe dating from 1947. Fresh, light with flavours of citrus and juniper, give way to intense warming spices of cardomon, coriander seed and clove.
This was then followed by more Pickering’s cocktails in the new Bond gin bar next door, whilst mingling with the other guests. My favourite was the Pickering’s Peach Bellini with bergamot, which enhanced the citrus flavours of the gin. It was all very civilised and a rather decadent way to spend a Monday night.
These baubles won’t hang around for long though so you’d better be quick off the mark. The Edinburgh distillery made headlines after 30,000 of their gin-filled Christmas baubles sold out in 82 seconds in 2016.
The baubles went on sale this morning and are available to buy online at bit.ly/buybaubles and 200+ outlets around the UK. I also spotted some individual baubles available to buy at the vintage inspired The Trumpet Shop at 46a George Street. And in case you’re confused, they don’t sell trumpets but a range of fabulous art, gifts, gin and wine.
Pickering’s Gin Baubles cost £30.00 and come in a gift pack containing six differently coloured plastic balls. The baubles are made of plastic, so don’t worry, there’s no issue with them breaking in the post!
