Breckland Orchard: Thirst quenching posh pop

I’m a great fan of Fentiman’s beverages as you know. However, there are times when you want to drink something a little different. I discovered Clare Martinsen’s range of soft drinks at the recent Speciality Food show in Glasgow and was bowled over.

Clare swapped the business world in 2009 to work just as hard in her own business, Breckland Orchard, based in Norfolk. She now produces a range of drinks inspired by her Granny’s recipes all made with local Spring water and no added nasties. These she dubs “posh pop”

I’ve been lucky enough to taste all the drinks in the range. What suits your palate will of course differ from mine, but two that are really outstanding are the Strawberry and Rhubarb and the Ginger Beer with Chili.

The first of  my favourites astonished me. I’m one of those people who loves fresh strawberries but hates strawberry flavoured things (such as yogurt). This mixture was fruity, light and flavoursome and really has a fresh strawberry tang.  The Ginger beer mixture is astonishing. You don’t so much as taste the chilli but have the ginger flavour enhanced!

In Scotland, Peckhams stock Breckland – do stop by and try!
