When I heard Bross Bagels was opening *literally* down the road from me I could barely contain my excitement. Salt beef! Lox and cream cheese! Bespoke pickles! A side of latkes! All the yes.
There are certainly a few purveyors of fine bagelry in our fair city, but there’s something about Bross that really captures what I feel a bagel should be: doughy enough to create chew, but not overly dense; generous fillings, but not overpowering the natural bagel flavour. Bross and I are on the same bagel wavelength. Interestingly, they also offer quite the selection of vegan fillings and gluten free bagels are also available. Everyone’s a winner.
Owned by Montreal native Lara Bross, Bross Bagels deliver some excellent combinations out in their first store in Portobello and many will now be available in the city. So keep an ear out for the bagel bell signifying fresh bagels, made in an impressive piece of kit by the guys from Breadshare. Then choose from classics with a twist, like salt beef, melted swiss cheese and sauerkraut, or hot smoked salmon and jalapeno cream cheese with pickles. Pair it with Brooklyn beer or Bon Accord juice for a lovely, satisfying eat from 10am til late, 7 days a week.
